Master Data

The most important data to your organization.

Overview

Master Data is a part of Enterprise Data Management. It is how you handle the most common and important information in your company and crosses departmental boundaries and is ideally standardized across the organization. It provides context to a transaction in terms of what, who, where, etc. It establishes the source of truth for the organization so it needs to be of High Quality.

A sibling to Master Data is Reference Data. Reference Data is common standards that are used as lookup values that are not company or industry specific that are commonly accepted and rarely change. An example would be state abbreviations.
